I’m responding to a Daily Prompt as part of Blogging101, but I also think it’s quite appropriate for me to post this today.
As most of you know, or can tell from the name of my blog, I do travel a lot and sometimes feel a little nomadic. When I arrived home from Sydney this evening, I couldn’t for the life of me remember where I’d parked my car. It was my 4th airport in 5 days, so I really think that I could be forgiven. I have a page on my blog called Notes To Self, which lists some of the things I have leant along the way with my travels, and they are meant to serve as reminders for travel. Let me see…. I forgot to take the headphone adapter for the plane and I forgot where I parked my car. I took a chance that it was on level 8, since I always try to park on level 8, and thank goodness I was right.
So, back to the prompt. A nomadic lifestyle. Do I need a home base? Absolutely I do. The travel is fine, it can even be interesting and fun, especially if I have friends in the city that I’m visiting. But, I always love to come home. I spent my Christmas holidays in “nesting mode” and that’s not unusual for me. I painted walls, framed and hung photographs, installed new lights, reorganised, tidied, cleaned.
I remember one of the Just Thursday Blog Hop topics was “what is your favourite time of the day”. I didn’t get a chance to comment on that one, but I did think about it a lot. I was thinking about light and energy levels, food and seeing family and friends. A few days later, I was walking through an airport thinking about it and I realised my favourite part of the day – I said to the Qantas Business Lounge ladies “my favourite part of the day is when I walk into the Qantas lounge”. They laughed and said that their favourite part was leaving the lounge! LOL. It’s funny what makes you happy, isn’t it? For me, arriving at the lounge means that work is over, home is not far away, there’s a bottle of wine in there waiting for me, I can relax. It means that I’m going home, nearly there! And for me, that’s the best feeling. Actually, there are a lot of those little feelings. Another is when I get to the carpark and see my car, it’s another step closer to home. And then of course, the kicker – seeing Gidget and watching her being super-excited about having a cuddle and curling up on the couch.
I’ve added a video at the end of this post – a little treat so that you can see how my girl reacts when I ask her if she wants to go to Grandma’s house 🙂
Ultimately, I am someone who needs home.
Have home base, will travel….
And then will come back home 🙂
