In my first Changing Seasons post (January), I featured some photos of exhibits from the Queensland Art Gallery. I love this place, the exhibits are amazing. During my most recent Changing Seasons post (March), I spent some more time at my favourite exhibit, Zilvinas Kempinas’s Columns 2006, an installation of magnetic video tape. I’ve featured some more photos of it below, but you can read all about it here at the Gallery website.
The room next door to this one features 4 main installations. One is the ceiling, which is covered in inner tyre tubes that have been joined, tied, suspended to cover the entire ceiling – a very large space. This is Michael Sailstorfer’s Wolken (Clouds) 2010.
Finally, this was a very cool mirrored installation. You can’t tell whether it’s flat on the wall or recessed back. I snuck up close and found that it is actually recessed, but I was spotted and told to step back! Eek! They remind me of mathematical fractal patterns. It is a work by Timo Nasseri, entitled Epistrophy VI 2012, made from polished stainless steel. From the Gallery’s blog: “The polished metal and geometric forms of Epistrophy VI 2012 transform the cupola-like muqarnas of Islamic architecture to create a portal into an endlessly reflected world, placing the viewer within its infinite geometry.”
It really is a beautiful piece of art.
