Books2Movie Wishlist Tag

My dear FearlesslyNat at Science, Books and Silly Things, has nominated me for the Books to Movies Wishlist Tag Challenge. Here are the rules, they’re pretty simple:
Pick 5 books that you would like to see made into movies, and talk a little bit about why you picked those books. Then, tag 5 more people to join in the fun.

First up, I think I’d like to READ all of the books that Nat chose, they sound great. I’ve been a little slow at reading lately. I keep getting caught up in all the “stuff” of life. I used to read on the plane, but these days most planes I travel on have TVs in the back of the seat headrest, so I usually end up watching TV mindlessly. I mean, I’ve seen every episode of The Big Bang Theory more than once, but I still have to watch it on the plane – what is the deal with that?!

I have a pretty eclectic mix of books on my shelves. I have SO many books. Every room has books in it. I’ve been reading since I was very young. I used to miss the bus to school because I was so engrossed in my book each morning.

This is actually a difficult challenge, since usually the movie is not as good as the book, as we all know. But I have to assume that when we talk about this challenge, we KNOW that the movie will be done exceptionally well. Ok? Good.  Here goes:

1.    Stephen King’s The Tommyknockers  This is my all-time favourite King novel. I read it SO many years ago and then again many years later. I think it might be time to read it again. It has so much going for it – science fiction, but not cheesy, romance but still funny and that dry, slow-burning intelligence that King does so well. It could go very badly as a movie but it could also be excellent. I’m seeing it a little like Super 8  was made – that’s one of my favourite movies.

2.   Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter  I have to mention this one – there are 23 so far and I’ve read all of them except the most recent, it’s next on my list. These books have changed so much over the years. A lot of people dislike the changes, and I can to some extent, understand why. However, I like that there is real growth and change for each of the characters. That said, it’s the first few books that I’d like to see as a movie. In the beginning, Anita worked as a Necromancer but also helped the local police department with murder cases and it was this that really worked for me and got me so involved in the books and the character developments.

3.   Jo Nesbo’s The Devil’s Star  Now I now that there are many Jo Nesbo Harry Hole books before this one, but I just loved this one and that waterbed scene will make for a champion spine-tingling thriller scene. The Nesbo books are so good, I need to get back to reading more of them!

4.   Audrey Niffenegger’s Her Fearful Symmetry  What a fantastic author. I LOVED The Time Traveller’s Wife and then there was this one. It’s a great read – she writes beautifully, her characters are brilliant, the story is suspenseful and intricate. It would translate very well to the screen.

5.   Who remembers the Trixie Belden books from the 80s?! These were the books that really cemented my love of reading. I remember my mum and dad driving me to garage sales so that I could complete my collection. And I did! I still have all 39 of them. I think they would have made an awesome TV series, a new mystery each week for girl-detective Trixie and her pals to solve.

So, those are my choices. A fairly eclectic mix as promised, and I may have cheated slightly on the last one by making it a TV show 🙂
