There was music playing, she could feel it, but her mind wasn’t ready to understand the words. She could just feel the beat, it pulsed in her head. She closed her eyes and just let it wash over her. She let everything wash over her. What now? What would she do? He’s gone, he’s not coming back, it’s over.
She tried to see his face, that last time they were together, but the features wouldn’t come to her and she panicked. She took a deep breath and focussed on the music – something about hands in the lyrics… She thought about his hands, they were normal hands, nothing unusual about them. But when she saw them, she saw the fingers laced between hers, she saw his hand bringing her hand to his mouth. She felt his breath on her skin as he grazed his lips over her knuckles in a feathery kiss.
The music changed, slowed, a lower pulsing beat and her memory responded. She saw those hands reaching out to touch her face and trace a line down her cheek, down her neck and down her side to encircle her waist and come to rest against her back, pulling her closer to him. In her mind, she followed his hands as they travelled down her body and as her head fell back, it came to her in a rush – she finally remembered his face.
She knew he was gone, but she knew she would always remember him.
I’ve signed up to Writing101. For this post, I’ve used the free-writing method and haven’t gone back to edit the text – eek! Paragraphs seemed to make themselves, so I hope it flows ok. The idea was to just write for 20 minutes, whatever came to you.
It’s strange, I find it so much easier to write like this, these words right here, when I’m writing about myself and what I think and personally believe. The story above – I wrote it in the “stream-of-consciousness” style, as the daily prompt requested, but it didn’t seem to come to me as easily. I had to pour myself a glass of wine, put on some music and sit down at my coffee table in order to get that to flow.
Anyway, this is the start of 20 days of prompts from the Writing101 team. I’ll try to include a photo each time, but probably won’t give my usual information about the shot. I hope you enjoy this slight sideways step from me, I want to improve my writing and you know I love a challenge 🙂
