Dewy Gemstones

The Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge this week asks us for our Inspiration – what makes us get up and go each day, makes us happy. Of course, there are a number of things – family, friends, missG, nature, so many things that are inspirational, or that motivate us to get up and DO something.

For me, right now, my biggest inspiration is photography – I am inspired to go out with my camera and see what I can find through my lens. It even gets me out of bed 😉

The other morning, I woke up before 6am and noticed a very heavy fog – unusual for Brisbane and it was just 7 degrees Celsius. Usually, at that time, I would have gone back to bed for another hour. I lay in bed for a few minutes, but couldn’t help it, I had to go out and try photographing the fog. The photos are fine, but my street isn’t very exciting (and I was in my pyjamas) so I ventured out to the back garden where I discovered that everything was covered in a very heavy dew.

A usually very uninspiring plant was transformed into bejewelled fabulousness.

I have this plant scattered throughout my garden edge and there are two varieties as you can see – red-tinged and purple-tinged. Here is what the reddish plants looks like sans dewdrops:

Thanks so much Jeremy. Yes, always. Mainly just upping the contrast and clarity to 100 in Lightroom and then just minor slider mods to blacks and whites.

Imagining the scene of a Frequent Flying Scientist waking up at 6am, venturing to the frozen garden, wearing PJ’s, ugg boots and a giant woolly jumper, would be enough to prove that there is a passion, and a strong force that moves her into action, despite the cold.
Looking at the outcome of this action is awe inspiring and breathtaking.

Occasionally a post generates an involuntary gasp of delight. This is one of those posts. What treasures you captured. And what an absolute demonstration of the fact that if you go out with a ready eye, morning, noon or night, the world rises to the occasion. Thank you – yet again.

What is that plant DJ? I want one in my garden….The colours are so rich. Did you enhance them at all?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. desleyjane Avatar

Sorry I will have to ask Dad, I can’t remember. The colors darken when you increase contrast and clarity but I have also increased saturation to enhance the “jewel” look.

Dad’s pleasure 😉 Yes I’m fascinated in the variations in colour. It seems it depends on how much sun it gets, among other things.

My poor Nandina is a very sad looking bush, it is amongst a lot of natives and I think, doesn’t get enough sun or water.

Oh no! Mine seem to be flourishing. I don’t water them very often (maybe once every two months I’ll remember to put the sprinkler on lol) and I recently transplanted 2 of them. They’re still ok.
