PhotoRehab Cover Makeover 12

Another Thursday, another Cover Makeover from Lucile’s Photo101 Rehab Clinic.

If you haven’t seen the wrap up from last week, pop over to Lucile’s post to see the makeovers of “The Sound of Music” from last week.

Meanwhile, on to this week’s challenge – another movie: The Cabin in the Woods. The Cabin in the Woods is a 2012 American horror comedy film directed by Drew Goddard in his directorial debut, produced by Joss Whedon, and written by Whedon and Goddard. The film stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, and Jesse Williams. The plot, from IMDB, is this:

Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods.

I’ve seen this movie a few times. It is produced by Joss Whedon, who is the creator of a number of great TV shows – Buffy, Angel, Firefly – as well as, of course, The Avengers movies. He has a wonderfully intelligent comical style and I always make a point of checking out anything new that he does.

This movie is full of funny lines, good scares, Chris Hemsworth 😀 science fiction, supernatural elements. You name it! I enjoyed it immensely, up to a point, but was a little annoyed with the ending. If you like any of the Joss Whedon shows, and don’t mind scary movies, check it out.

Anyway, I wanted to do a cover that was more creepy and dark. So I took two different photos from a trip to Stanthorpe – one of an old abandoned building, and the second of a stand of trees, dark but with sunlight flaring through at the top. I converted both to black and white and then overlaid the building photo over the trees photo using the Double Exposure setting in Pixlr. Leaving the Opacity at 100, I then chose their preset called “Add” which created a cool in the overlay. Next, I added another effect – the “Unicolour” which gave it an orange look. After that, I increased contrast and decreased brightness, which both served to darken the image so that my text would show up. I added the text in the Over App.

I’m not in love with my efforts in this makeover. I think I could have done a better job of layering the text onto the photo. I think I need to open Photoshop and start playing….

Remember to check the post on Lucile’s blog for the instructions on how to participate.

Hi, I like where this is going, however I must admit I am not a fan of the text either, is it the colour? Just wondering how it would ‘feel’ if the text was more of an orange? I love the effect of the house and the trees.

Yah I think I need to make the background darker or the text brighter. Maybe orange? I don’t know. But I did love how the photo turned out too 🙂 Thanks!

Great prosody. I had never heard of the movie, but I knew before reading your blog that it had to be a scary/suspense movie.

ok..prosody isn’t the word…not sure what the word is…where the “feel” matches the true meaning 🙂 (and I call myself a writer!)
