A Moving Post (not really).

I thought it was time I posted an update on how things are going with my impending move to Melbourne. I am still in the process of selling my house. Two separate families have made offers on my house, only to have their finances fall through. It’s a challenging time in Australia at the moment as the banks are starting to tighten up on their lending amounts and increasing their interest rates, even though the reserve bank has not increased rates. Where people have been pre-approved for a certain amount of money, they are suddenly being told that the amount that the bank is willing to offer has dropped. Also it’s Christmas, so not a prime house-shopping time ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

It’s incredibly frustrating, but it is what it is and I am determined to cope with it. Here are a few shots of my place, from the online advertisement. It was interesting to chat with the photographer as he took these. It was obvious that he had a formula to follow but I did chat with him about his other interests and he told me that he was going to photograph some slow motion dancing at the beach, capturing arcs of sand coming from a kicked leg during twilight hours. It sounded divine, I wanted to join him.

It’s been a fabulous place to live for the last 9 years – it was exactly 9 years yesterday. It was not at all like this when I moved in. It had threadbare carpet, yellowish walls, very sad curtains, a much smaller concrete patio with dark green mesh all around it, a musty smell, and a very jungle-like garden with a falling apart shed right down the back. But I could see some potential. My family and my dear bestie Moana and I scrubbed the place from top to bottom on the first day. I still remember us having Chinese takeout that first night, sitting on the floor or on cooler boxes. I have put a lot of time, money and effort into this little place in the suburbs and I really love how it’s turned out and I am very sad to say goodbye to it.

BUT I am very much looking forward to a new adventure in my new city of Melbourne. While I haven’t sold my house yet, I HAVE signed a lease on a new apartment in Melbourne, just a few minutes from the CBD on one of the most well-known streets in the city. It’s a brand new place on the 5th (top) floor of a small apartment complex and it has a massive terrace, almost as big as my patio in my current home. Gidget is, of course, allowed to move in to this very modern, brand new space and I’m very much looking forward to putting my design spin on it. I will be renting, so I can’t make the same extreme changes that I’ve made here at home, but I’m sure I can make it work. I’m looking forward to sharing some photos with you once I’ve settled in.

At this stage, I’m looking to move early in January. Hopefully, someone else will fall in love with my home soon, and will be able to back up their offer with the required finance. Keep your fingers crossed for me?

Your place looks great. I’m sure once the Xmas madness wears off you’ll find a buyer; but I know how stressful it can be meantime. Am slightly envious of your move to Melbourne. It’s the one Australian city I could live in — though, like you, I’d have to be very near the CBD (or Middle Park if I could afford it!).

Thank you! I had to look up Middle Park, looks lovely! Yes very stressful, but I’m trying not to think about that side of it. My lack of sleep betrays me though ๐Ÿ˜‰

It is a stressful time, but on the plus side, your house will probably sell really quickly after Xmas, and in a few months it will all be a distant memory. Let’s hope so.

Moving is a hassle, but i’m glad you have a new place. Hopefully you’ll get rid of your old one shortly after the holidays. I moved from my own place into a rental as well (when I moved earlier this year). I haven’t done anything to fix things up here, I haven’t even bothered to put any photos/paintings on the walls.
I’ll probably end up living here for a long time, but it feels temporarily…

I will keep my fingers crossed for you (even though it makes typing rather difficult). One point which may apply to you (it does here in the UK) is to check your house insurance to see if you are covered if the house is empty. have to say the flat sounds great. I’m sure you’ll have it looking like home soon enough.

What a darling home Desley, just love all you’ve designed it to be. I would feel sad leaving such a beautiful place too, but you seem so positive and upbeat about your impending move. Can’t wait to see pictures of your new place, I’m sure you’ll have your mark on it in no time. Once the Christmas rush is over, I’m sure it won’t be long before someone just snaps it up, it is just lovely! I wish you all the very best in your new adventure, and what a wonderful way to start the beginning of a new year! Cheers!

Thank you Loretta, I’m glad you like it. It’s a strange feeling to be leaving it, I never thought I’d leave here, but I’ve in a way outgrown it – I’m craving a spot away from the suburbs ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks again and best wishes to you too for the holiday season and new year. Cheers!

A beautiful house, guess you must be very sad to leave and at the same time frustrated with the whole process – been there, done that …the outside deck looks great! Melbourne will be quite a change buts it’s a Greta city, used to travel there frequently to visit a certain Minister and VIC senator…
