Rainy Day Optimism

Washout
Washout

One of things I love about my new apartment in Melbourne is the terrace off my living area. It’s a very large tiled space which overlooks the east side of the city. I have plans for it, but a few days after I moved in, I hurt my back and two weeks later it hasn’t really improved. So right now, my outdoor furniture is scattered about haphazardly and there are a lot of wet cardboard boxes out there, leftovers from the beginnings of my unpacking.

For the last week or so, it’s been raining off and on here in Melbourne. I am still taking Gidget for her walks at least twice each day, however I haven’t yet mastered the art of taking photos while also holding a leash. If anyone has any tips for that, please let me know! So, I have ventured out onto my terrace, camera in hand, to photograph the raindrops on my outdoor furniture.

I joined Cardinal Guzman’s “The Changing Seasons” event in 2015 and will continue in 2016 as well. Last year, I photographed the same part of Brisbane each month (give or take a couple of months) to capture the changes throughout the year. It was something I truly enjoyed and I’m very glad to have those photos to look back on, now that I’ve moved to a new city.

This year, Cardinalย has modified the event to give usย a second option for the event, where we can present something which represents our interpretationย of that month. For me – it’s an assortment of outdoor furniture, accompanied by drizzly rain.

I’m also using this post for this week’s The Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Optimistic which says:ย This week show us something youโ€™re optimistic about, or perhaps a talisman that helps you stay positive and hopeful, regardless of what life (and the weather!) throws your way.

Something that always helps me stay positive is photography, particularly macro photography, something I’ve not done in quite some time. Also, the photo of the snail is kind of an obvious symbol of moving house ๐Ÿ˜‰

Great photos, Desley. Your outdoor furniture is so wonderfully colorful (that pink, tho)!

Oh thank you! Yes I love my pink plant stand. The first ones are my red table.

What a lovely mix of photos, and a great culmination in the snail. I’m puzzled by the pair of b&w shots though. It looks like a kind of stripy humbug pattern in water drops. How? Why?

I’m sorry about your back: may it soon be well. As for dog-on-lead photography. If it’s anything like walking with 3 yo twins, it doesn’t happen!

Thank you. The black and whites are taken from above my wicker coffee table. The water had collected in drops all over the table and the wicker was reflected through from below. I really loved the patterns it made.
Yes I think it might be a lot like walking with 3yo’s LOL. That explains why I haven’t taken a lot of shots outside lately ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for explaining those lovely patterns. I need to add the twins are not on a leash, although it’s tempting!

Nice that you still have a sense of humor amongst your physical ailments. I think most of us go through that once or more times in our lives, although not so much with the wetted packing boxes and contents. Hang in there and know that the sun is shining, even if you can’t always see it. :).

Sorry to hear the back is still bothering you, but you still managed to get some very interesting photos. As for taking photos with a dog in tow, I just drop the lead and put my foot on it saying “sit” at the same time. Most dogs I’ve looked after soon get used to my regular photo stops. Of course it is easier if you are in an area where you can let them off the lead.

Thanks PP. It isn’t pleasant but I was determined to take some photos on the weekend. Thanks for the advice about the dog walking. She is pretty good so I might be able to do what you suggest. I’m going for urban shots so off-leash isn’t really an option. And juggling a camera bag with other lenses will be tricky. I think sometimes she will have to stay home in the air conditioning ๐Ÿ˜‰

What beautiful macro shots, Desley, and of course the pink is simply delicious ๐Ÿ™‚ So sorry to hear about your back issues. I can commiserate as I’m right there with you (have had three steroid injections and still having pain). Fingers crossed yours is short lived!

Thanks so much. Oh no that sounds awful Stacy! I hope you get some relief soon! I have a misaligned rib digging into my spine and its excruciating. Except when I’m walking so GG is getting plenty of walks lately ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yikes!!! That doesn’t sound fixable to me – is it?? Funny, I’m better when I’m moving too – sitting or especially at night when I lay down brings on the pain. Makes for long nights and interrupted sleep ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

          A sad and sorry pair!
I think it is fixable. Although it’s been over three weeks now ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ
The pelvis is realigned but the rib pinching the nerves at the vertebrae is diabolically painful. I think I need to see an osteopath or chiro, that might be the way forward.

Ouch! I empathise with the back, I have a tendency for sciatica and it can happen so easily and then I am in agony for days! So I am sending you warm hugs and compresses for your back. And I am loving the pink droplets! You are a macro queen DJ.
