Bottles and Bubbles

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another set of shots from our Still Life Workshop at Julie Powell‘s studio.

This was fun. We shot on a mirror with a white canvas behind the mirror. It’s a bit of work to get all the parts in the right place at the right time, but the payoff is awesome.

I brought out the chemistry by filling the bottles with bicarbonate of soda in water and then the photographers lined up, ready for me to add the vinegar so that they could get the shots.

I didn’t have enough bicarb in the water, so it didn’t fizz as much as we would have liked, but the effect of the bubbles was still cool. There’s a recipe for an experiment here where I make popcorn dance up and down in liquid. Very cool fun.

Ok, macro lens time 🙂

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder’s fork and blind-worm’s sting,
Lizard’s leg and howlet’s wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon’s blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

Ciao for now.

    I also use a mirror and a background sometimes. It’s fun to try out these kind of techniques. A typical winter project in my home.

    I shall save this post for the winter when I can’t go out and am itching to use the camera. I must put food dye on my shopping list. The macro bubbles are fanta- stic 😉 and I ❤ the main shot with the lopsided bottle lids; a bit of me wants to mix up the straws…
