Am I where I wanted to be?
Did I get here easily?
Did I make a sacrifice?
Did I take a sharp left…
when I should have turned right?
⁃ Darren Hayes, Where You Want To Be.
We all have our sliding doors moments, I’m sure. What if? What if things were different? What would have happened if I’d said yes instead of no, if I’d chosen to go on that trip, if I’d agreed with that boy, turned my back on that job??
Are these regrets?
Do I feel resentful?
Do I wish things were different?
I’ve written about this before. For me, life is about the people you meet, the people you gather around yourself, the people you want in your life.
If I’d made other decisions, chosen different paths, had a different answer, then I may never have met the people that I’ve met.
And that would be a tragedy.
Of course, I would have met other people. And I wouldn’t have known what I was missing by not meeting the people that I’ve met. But I’m very glad to have met my people.
My people.
MY people.
I believe wholeheartedly that life is what you make it. And although I’m not sure it’s a mantra I’m living right now, I do believe in it. I’m not there right now, but I’ll get back there.
Soon.
Another story for another time.
So, no.
No regrets.
No resentment.
No wishing things were different.
Life is what you make it.
And ain’t that the truth?
