I’ve stayed at the Quality Sands quite a few times; it’s close to our head office in Warriewood. The location is lovely, right across the street from the beach. Bad location if you need to be in the city, but you wouldn’t stay there if you needed to be in the city, right?!
There are a number of good restaurants nearby including three great breakfast places. I’m not a fan of the “hotel” bar downstairs, it’s much like an RSL or other club. The food is actually quite good (especially the salmon and also the noodles) but the ambience is not great – very brightly lit and noisy. There is the option of room service but the RS menu is very limited, mainly to fairly unhealthy fried food.
The rooms are spacious and quite nice, I’ve almost always had the same room each time and “my room” has a good-sized balcony. Be warned that the bed is two king singles joined together, so there is that “middle of the bed ridge” issue, which drives me crazy.
Be warned also that the bar fridge has nothing in it, not even water. There is a convenience store across the road (literally 20 steps) and it has pretty much everything you need. Plus, as mentioned, the nearby cafes are very good.
The staff at the Quality Sands have always been very nice – happy to help, remember my name and easy to deal with. Overall, it’s a pretty good hotel, well-priced and handily located if you’re visiting the Northern beaches.
