Aren’t all my posts just my opinion? I’m supposed to critique something or give my opinion on a topic. I don’t like critiquing things (except punctuation and grammar of course – I love that!) but I do have a lot of opinions about a lot of things.

Today though, I think I’ll discuss this writing course. I’m enjoying it immensely. While many of the prompts are recycled, (I did many of them before in the Writing101 course), I am enjoying seeing how my responses have changed since I did the last course 2 years ago. I guess that means that I’ve grown, which is not really surprising considering the things that have happened in those two years. I think I’ve become much more comfortable writing from the heart, and also much more comfortable just being myself.

I took up this course in an effort to become more active here in WordPress, like I was two years ago. I’ve missed the community. I’ve missed my posting schedule, interacting with people every day. And I’ve especially missed writing very, very much. I haven’t ventured into a proper short story yet, I’m still a little daunted by it, but I’m getting very close.

One thing I would change about this course is the self-paced structure. While I enjoy being able to post whenever I feel like it, I do really miss the community of doing the same course alongside my fellow classmates. I miss the camaraderie of a group of people all doing the same prompts at the same time. I had a great time last time and met some amazing people who I am so happy to have reconnected with since starting this course this time around.

I do recommend this course – Finding Everyday Inspiration. It’s a great way to get (back) into the habit of writing more often. The prompts are interesting enough and the resource pages give you a couple of different options for approaching the prompt in case you want to try something a little different.

I hope you’re enjoying coming along this little writing journey with me. I’m very happy to be here 😊

  1. I keep wanting to write again but haven’t been able to find the time. I’m gearing up for the start of the new year. There’s a book in me that’s just waiting to get started on January 1. πŸ™‚

  2. Ha! It’s genius that you provided a critique of the course itself. I share your opinion of the course: it’s nice when you want to return to blogging after a hiatus or write more often, but a shame it’s self-paced without the community.

  3. I had the same problem, doing the course without the community. I enjoyed getting to know new people who were involved in the same activities as me.

  4. Thank you for the link to the writing course. I really enjoy your writing, so I’m glad you have decided to write again.

I am in the process and midst of restarting on WordPress after a few months break, so this will be so helpful. My daughter is taking a Creative Writing Class in school, and has been sharing helpful tips with me. So I should be in good shape to get things going!

  5. How clever to use this prompt to voice your opinion about the course.
I cannot agree more. I joined the course motivated by you, and the possibility to be reunited with the fellow bloggers.
That’s been the biggest disappointment of all, and the community poll is the only space left.
If one imagines the million bloggers flocking to the same space, it won’t be difficult to conclude that to get good feedback and create a community there, feels like buying the winning lottery ticket.
