I have joined Blogging101 which starts today and our first assignment is to introduce ourselves and why we are here. I have written something similar recently as a 2014 review, so my apologies to my readers if this is all old news 😉
I went back and had a look at my Twitter bio since it shortly and sweetly sums me up: Scientist, salesperson, photographer, dog lover, frequent flyer, daughter, sister, BFF, human.
I am a scientist (biochemist) who decided to move to sales in 2005, as a specialist who teaches people how to use robots in science labs. I recently needed a change of scenery and was given the opportunity to become the national sales manager for another scientific sales company. My job involves a lot of travel, mainly domestically here in Australia and it is a very intensive role. To avoid burning out and to just be happier, I took up photography as an avenue to switching off the work brain, and opening up the creative side. I have never looked back.
I started this blog 10 weeks ago with the idea of sharing my views on travel in general, hotels, restaurants, luggage, etc. Fortuitously, I joined just before Blogging U’s Photo101 started, and I jumped right in having a tonne of fun and met so many talented, creative and sharing people. This has rapidly evolved into a photography blog and I couldn’t be happier about that. I still review hotels and restaurants occasionally, and I talk about my travel antics, but there is always photography involved.
I rarely leave home without my Olympus OMD EM5 and prime lenses, and also my iPhone 6 – these two cameras help me to document the world around me. I can very easily get lost behind the lens.
My feature image today, is Gidget, my Maltese x Lhasa Apso puppy, who really isn’t a puppy anymore. She turns 5 this coming Valentine’s Day. I love her dearly, she is my constant companion (except when I’m travelling of course) and you can see pictures of her in my previous posts.
Daughter, sister, BFF – my family and friends are exceptionally important to me. With the travel (38 flights last year), it is such a blessing to come home to them – they are always here for me, and I try my best to be here for them.
Human – well, yes, things go wrong, mistakes are made, drama erupts. That’s what makes us human. But it also gives us the opportunity to learn and grow and become better humans 🙂
I am happy to be here and can’t wait to meet everyone and see what this month brings us! I want to improve my photography skills and see if I have any writing skills outside of scientific journal articles, and I want to connect with other people who are working towards similar goals.
