A Little Rehab

Lights at the Dock.

I have been a bit ill today and I am in need of a little rehab. Luckily, my dear Lucile at bridging lacunas, has kept the Rehab Clinic open for us Photo101’ers, so I wanted to share this photo with you here.

This photo was taken as our cruise ship docked into Noumea in the South Pacific. It was still a little rocky and it was late evening, so we weren’t going to be getting off the ship. I loved how the lights were reflecting in the water, so I got to work taking some photos.

These were taken with my Olympus OMD EM5, handled on a rocking boat at about 8pm. I used my trusty 17mm f/1.8 lens (35mm equivalent). I took the photo at the widest aperture (f1.8) to let in as much light as possible, but it was still pretty dark, so I had to compensate with a slow shutter speed (1/10 second) and bump the ISO up to 2000.

Lovely picture. The glow of the lights on the shore, the colour of the water and the texture of the waves all make for a really interesting shot. I hope you’re feeling better soon and get to enjoy your holiday. 🙂

That’s a great photo. I agree with Andy – it looks a little like a toy boat. It would be great to be out there on a balmy Brisbane night. I love the different colours on the waves.

Desley, this is a fantastic shot! Wonderfully composed, with the light hitting that tug just perfectly. Your settings were spot on! And at 2000 ISO, I can’t even see any noise! How is that possible!?? So glad to hear you’re up and around now 🙂
