Fly lands on flower
Searching for the sweet nectar
But he’s not a bee
My first and quite pathetic attempt at a haiku – eek!
But I like the photo. Unfortunately, his feet are disappearing into the flower due to my shallow depth of field but this fly was buzzing about everywhere and the flower was bobbing about in the breeze and I was handheld. All very difficult 😉
This is my final submission to the 5 Stories 5 Photos Black and White Challenge, for which I was nominated by afairymind at The Storyteller’s Abode. What a fun challenge this has been. I’ve learnt that I’m better with pictures than with words – LOL – but I’ve had a great time giving it a go. And I’ve enjoyed everyone else’s submissions as well.
For my final nomination, I invite the lovely Jilly at jillypopmusic to join the challenge. Please visit her blog for reviews of some fab music – I’ve found great new bands on her site.
The rules of the 5 Photos-5 Stories challenge are:
1) To post a black and white photo every day for 5 days
2) To write a story to accompany your photo for 5 days (this can be fiction or non-fiction, a page, a paragraph or a poem)
3) To nominate a different person each day
For Lucile’s Photo101 Rehab Clinic: Taken with my Olympus OMD EM5 with my 60mm (120mm equivalent) macro lens at f/2.8, 1/50s and ISO200, handheld. Come visit the clinic – great photos, great people, what more do we need?!
And because you know I can’t resist, here are some other photos from the same shoot – I think you need to see the fly in colour 😉

Nice catch Desley, I didn’t realise they had spotted wings… how close did you have to get for that and for him to stay still!

It was hard! I was probably about 25cm away with my camera. It’s a great macro lens. But still tricky with so much movement. Thank you!!

Nicely done! The detail is really lovely. I like that his feet are disappearing into the flower. Great minds think alike as I got a bee in my sunflower this afternoon. I think I’ll put it in as my first photo in the 5 day challenge.

Awesome! I’m not a fan of insecty things, except when photographing them! Looking forward to seeing your bee!

Great capture! I love the detail on his wings and back. The final line of your haiku made me smile. 🙂

Hee hee! I’m glad about that. I was happily writing about bees when I realised my fatal flaw!

The colourful fly is really quite beautiful. Your photo helps me see it in a new light!

Thanks Norah! Yes I think it was the colour that made me sound so much time with him….

Handheld? I am impressed – I would be top shaky and the fly moving all the time Won’t make it better either 🙂

Thank you! Yep, I tried to use a tripod, but the movement of the plant was too much, kept moving out of view!

Not pathetic at all, DesleyJane! Your haiku is quite lovely, as are your pictures (as usual).
