She feels the sharp edge of darkness closing in
Flashes of red pulsing
almost rhythmically
Each one timed with a wave of pain.
Reaching out
she makes a whimpering sound
Too much too bear
It shouldn’t be this hard.
With crisp sound, foil breaks
The pills slide down
She slumps to the ground
Sweet. Chemical. Relief.
This is my submission to Justine’s Eclectic Corner #9 Edge – Photography, quotes and poetry! She asks to submit a photo, quote or a free verse poem, depicting EDGE. I’ve never really written free verse before, so I thought I’d try it. Justine explains Free Verse:
Free verse is an open form of poetry. It does not use consistent meter patterns, rhyme, or any other musical pattern. It thus tends to follow the rhythm of natural speech.
The photo is one that I’ve used before to accompany another piece of writing for Justine’s Eclectic Corner here. I think it suits this prompt as well.
