Macro Garden Series – 9

I thought this was a fungus or lichen growing on this tree trunk, but had to do some research to be sure.

It is a Bracket Fungus, and these are the fruiting bodies of the fungus – people sometimes call them conks apparently. While they look like mushrooms and you’d expect them to be soft, they are actually hard and woody.

Thanks so much, Desley! I posted a picture of this awhile back but had no idea what it was called. Now I know!

Love to find fungi and this is a lovely composition DJ. Often hard to photograph as they are usually in dark spots.

I really like the look of these fungi, they look like waves of chips climbing the tree. ๐Ÿ™‚
