Hello and welcome to week 12 of Contemplation. I hope you had a good week last week. It was very busy as seems to be usual here lately. On top of a busy week at work, it was another full weekend, but no camera time unfortunately. It’s been raining pretty steadily for about 5 days now, which is nothing compared to the wild weather that Brisbane and south to Sydney has experienced over the weekend. I hope everyone there got through the weekend ok.

I wasn’t sure about the prompt this week. Some of the other options were quite simple – Work or Play, In or Out, What was the temperature today, etc.

I thought this was a good prompt for this week: Right now, I feel…..




With an undercurrent of happy.

I don’t feel like I’ve fully recovered from being sick a couple of weeks ago. I’ve had some very busy weekends, which were all good fun, but it’s meant recovery has taken a back seat. I think the tired and achy is a leftover from being sick. But I did put a lot of effort into unpacking a lot of boxes last night and I also lifted a bookcase extension up over my head onto the top of the bookcase. Oh and I was also climbing a ladder at the time – sadly, the acrobatics don’t just make an appearance behind the camera.

So I’ve pulled something in my lower back again and I have to admit it’s pretty painful right now. I’m not looking forward to how it’s going to feel when I wake up in the morning. I hate hurting my back, but I really shouldn’t complain about it. My mum has been through so much with her back, so many surgeries and she is in pain all of the time. I feel so bad complaining to her about my little twinges. She is such a champion. One of the prompts last week was “what would you like to ask your mum?” and mine would be “how are you so awesome?”. She really is amazing, she pushes through and gets things done, makes people happy and looks after everyone.

I’ve also been a little overwhelmed with the sheer amount of “stuff” that needs to be done lately. Sorting out my home office last night really helped with that. I now have my space!! I’ve mentioned a few times that I needed to unpack a bunch of boxes and sort out my space so that I can get to work with some courses that I’ve been wanting to start (actually it was my goal for March so I’m only 3 month late!!!!!). So now, I just need to work out when I can fit that in amongst everything else! Oh and I need to decorate a little – put up some pictures and things.

Outside of organising my apartment and getting rid of as many boxes as I can, I have not done a lot of travel since moving to Melbourne and I’m starting to feel a little guilty about that. I’ve really focussed on clients in Melbourne and getting as much done here as I can. There has been so much to do in Melbourne but I know that there’s also so much to be done around the country and I know that I have to start travelling again. I was planning to go to Sydney a few weeks ago, but Gidget had her accident and I had to postpone my trip.

So, I’m off to Sydney next week instead, and then many of the other capital cities in the next couple of months as well. In a way, I’m looking forward to it because it’s been so long and I have missed some parts of it, but mostly I would prefer to stay home. After travelling for work for 11 years now, I would really like to just stay put. I have definitely not missed uncomfortable hotel beds and bad hotel coffee.

But you know what, despite those little things, I’m actually happy. I moved here 5 months ago (as of tomorrow) and it feels like such a good decision. I love my little apartment, I love the location, my neighbourhood is fantastic, I have had some wonderful visits from friends, I’ve developed some friendships here and found some cool photography groups, and now I have my space sorted out as well. I can’t really argue with any of that, right?!

One of my friends who visited a while back said to me that she admires my ability to decide to do something and just do it. Yah, call me the Nike gal 😉  I hadn’t really thought about it, but I guess it really was a huge thing to pack up my life and move here. But it’s worked out so far, things are going well, it’s freezing cold, but I’m even enjoying the novelty of that! Ask me again in a month or two how I feel about Melbourne weather 😉

  1. Hope your back gets better soon! I hate complaining when I’m sick or hurt too as I always compare it to how much worse other people have it BUT if you’re in pain, you’re in pain and shouldn’t feel bad about having a little moan about in fact sometimes it helps! 🙂 .. Glad to see you’re slowly turning your house into a home! I’m super excited to move back to London & make my place into a home But I’ll probably be the same as you and take time with unpacking haha 😀

    1. Thank you, I think having a little moan really does help! I’m so excited for you moving back! Is it far off now? Yes I can’t believe it’s been 5 months and I still have 5 boxes left to unpack!!

    1. Thanks hun. I’m ok with not going out for another couple of weeks. Well I’m not, in itching for a camera sesh, but I need to rest my achy bits for a week or two. But yes definitely soon! Did you see the next IGers meetup is at Mont-something-something?

  2. I love your Nike Gal attitude 🙂 Although back pains are so bad, I am turning into the worse complainer and grumpiest person the planet whenever I am in (slight) pain. You are doing great! I can’t even imagine what winter looks like after all those years in Asia. In the Philippines, it is just the same 80 F, but with rain! Get well soon my dear, so you can treat us with your awesome pics again X

    1. Thanks dearest. It’s not pleasant, that’s for sure. Lots of heat packs on the lower back! But walking is good, so I’ve been doing a bit of that. Oh warm with rain is always weird to me. We have been sitting at about 12 degrees lately but have had some mornings at 2!! X

  3. So sorry about your back. I remember a rare episode of back pain when I had to lie on the floor in the classroom mid-lesson for relief. It was absolutely no fun, but my classes were uncharacteristicallysympathetic. I also understand your ambivalence about travelling for work. I did it for nine years, but that was mainly by car. It sounds as if your Melbourne life is falling into place: nothing like organised work space to clear the mind. Happy travelling, and I’m looking forward to hearing about the courses. May tired, achy and painful back scurry out of your life NOW!

    1. Aw thanks. Lying on the floor in the classroom sounds diabolical. I had a similar situation in a lab once. Oh 9 years travelling for work, yep that’s a long time. I am right there and not excited. But maybe a little excited. It’s booked and I get to catch up with my bestie (the one with the dog graffiti) so all is well. Thanks for your wishes.

  4. I do hope you are feeling much better by now, it is awful to be in pain. I understand what you are feeling and wish you a speedy recovery, You’ve had a huge few months and have achieved a lot in that time. Just keep remembering that Nike Gal 🙂

    1. Thanks SO much Deb, I really appreciate your support. Yes much better now. And I’ve sorted out my spare room! I can’t wait to get started on the next phase now – a new computer, Photoshop course, etc etc. Yay!
