Macro Garden Series – 22

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Such a bizarre flower – I have to call upon my botany experts in the blogosphere to tell me what this is.

Shot at the Royal Melbourne Botanical Gardens.

I suspect it’s a flower that has yet to fully open.

. . . wasn’t there anyone at the gardens to ask?

Someone has just identified it as a bromeliad, matchstick variety. The gardens are enormous, like a suburb on their own so unfortunately not many “people in the know” around. There were tags on a lot of plants but it didn’t register to me to take note – oops!

Must’ve been created just for you. What a vibrant pink. I must keep my eye open in case someone knows what it is.

I’m sure I saw it somewhere recently in a post maybe and meant to save it….. Will take a look around.

Thank you! I’d never have guessed a bromeliad. “Matchstick” is not a bad name for it either.

I’d hazard a guess at a bromeliad of some kind, there are some weird and wonderful colour combinations! Great photo whatever it is!
