Welcome to #RegularRandom. I’m a day early this week because tomorrow is our second Pixel Sisters Studio workshop and we will be doing all sorts of wonderful things in the studio at the time when this usually goes up. I could schedule it, but I’m keen to share this one with you.
A quick squizz at the rules:
- choose a subject or a scene
- spend five minutes photographing it – no more!
- try to see it from many angles, look through something at it, change the light that’s hitting it
- have fun!

For this week’s The Daily Post Weekly Photography Challenge (TexturesTextures), Ben Huberman says:
Photography is a primarily visual medium, but we can experience it with more than one sense. This week, focus on the tactile element of the objects you shoot, whether it’s one distinct quality — softness, smoothness, graininess, or any other texture you find interesting — or a combination of several within one frame.
So this week, I’m sharing a Ranunculus flower, which is nearing the end of its time. I think it’s beautiful at this stage. The flower is shrinking in on itself, the colours becoming darker, the petals becoming more textured and wrinkled.
And then we go in very close. I’m using my Olympus OMD EM5 with the 60mm macro lens (120mm equivalent).
