Apparently Melbournians are all about the Vanilla Slice. There are multiple websites devoted to finding the best one. My mum and I share a love for Vanilla Slice, and when I? saw this last remaining slice at the bakery, I had to try it.

It was good. The pastry was amazing – crisp and delicious. The custard was fabulous, creamy and just perfect. The icing was very sweet, with some lemon in it, and I’m not in love with lemon. But all around, a really really good Vanilla Slice.

Would you like to join in the RegularRandom crew? Here’s how:

  • choose a subject or a scene
  • spend five minutes photographing it – no more!
  • try to not interfere with the subject, instead see it from many angles, look through something at it, change the light that’s hitting it
  • have fun!
  • tag your post #regularrandom and ping back to this post

Looking forward to seeing your shots.

  1. That’s a lovely crumbly one! My husband has a bit of a liking for these too. 🙂 🙂 Coming here makes me a bit sad because Meg’s not here, but she’ll be having a good time with her lovely family.

  2. I read this at the time when I was travelling and didn’t comment, but I did let it inspire me to buy the biggest and tastiest vanilla slice I’ve ever had, just a week or so ago. Thank you for that!

  3. It occurs to me a vanilla slice is not the most attractive nor instagram-able baked good, and yet, you have made it looks soooooooo very pretty & delicious! I can taste all the textures and flavours: the creamy, the crunchy, the sweetie, the slightly tensile frosting …..
